Family Events

Princess Ball: Friday, Friday, April 18 @ 7 p.m. - Old State Capitol

This year, Red Stick will feature our first ever “Princess Ball” in the Old State Capitol Senate Chamber. Girls are invited to come dressed up and learn how to dance with their father, brother, uncle, grandfather or best friends. Red Stick will award a prize to the wearer with the prettiest dancing slippers. The event is free, but we are asking for donations of $5 per family for the event. All the funds raised will support The Girl Scouts, The Boys and Girls Club of Baton Rouge and the Old State Capitol.

Cartoon-a-Palooza, Saturday, April 19 @ 9:30 a.m. - Old State Capitol

Clowns, spacewalks and cartoon images will be scattered across the lawn of the Old State Capitol on Saturday, April 19, for Cartoon-a-Palooza, part of the Red Stick International Animation Festival.

Santa vs. Claus, Saturday, April 19 @ 7 p.m. - Manship Theatre

Red Stick will host the world premier of Comet Entertainment’s new holiday animated film, “Santa vs. Claus.” Red Stick will host the worldwide film premier at 7 p.m. in the Manship Theatre and will invite children to attend dressed as their favorite Santa’s helper. Santa himself will make an appearance and share cookies and milk with the children before the film.

After Bed Time

Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming lineup has been touted over the last two years as a shining example that animation isn’t just for children. Films like the 2002 Academy Award winner Spirited Away show this is true. Any viewer who has ever watched even a few moments of South Park or Ren & Stimpy knows that animation for adults has a strong following. We intend to include works from Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim line up and Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted Animation Festival in a special After Hours program. These screenings will be held after 9 p.m., and are not appropriate for young viewers. These programs will appeal to the college students at LSU and Southern University. College students, specifically male college students, are some of the most devout audiences of adult animation programming.
